So, Anime Expo? A bit of people have asked how it went so I thought I’d write it all out here :) I arrived the first day of AX but spent it exploring an area called Little Tokyo with some friends in LA. It was pretty sick. Lots of anime stores, jfashion, tea and food options. I wish I could have explored it more but we all had to evacuate because a guy was running from the LAPD into the area 🫥 There was a stampede of people running out of the district. It was pretty scary cause we couldn’t tell what the helicopters were saying and thought it was something else that happens too often in America (OF would probably ding me for saying what we thought it was). We did end up saving that first day though. We went to a cool bookstore and then got good Japanese food afterwards and I had 1 drink (I am a lightweight) and wouldn’t shut up about my AoT theories 🤠 I realize a lot of footage from AX has gone viral (which is probably why so many of you asked about it), namely the sea of attendees/sardines and people claiming it was a scam LOL. That mostly happened the first day of AX which I didn’t go to. It was actually a breeze to get into the con the 2nd day. The con itself was massive. Nothing like I’d ever been to. There were times when it was definitely overwhelming with the amount of people, like in the dealers hall and artist alley where it was literally shoulder-to-shoulder. However, it was so cool to see anime companies go all out at panels and displays and such. I really enjoyed the Attack on Titan displays (shocker, I know!) Overall I had a lot of fun at AX! As many of y’all know, I didn’t go for the convention— I went for a band called Mili who was having their first concert in America. I needed an AX pass to see the band which is the only reason I went LOL. I cried during the Mili concert. It was incredible to finally see a band that I’ve been following for ***11 years***. Each song they played had a new unique twist to it like added guitar solos. I was actually so hyped during the concert that the guy in front of me gave me his glow stick or whatever those things are called LOL. (Either I was too hype or too annoying 🫢) ALSO gonna take a quick second to say that if you don’t let shorter people in front of you at concerts, I’m giving you the stink eye. The singer of Mili dislocated her knee about 2/3 into the concert so they had to stop but it was still an amazing show and I’m so happy that I got to see them :’) …. And as for the spam…. I seemed to have confused some people into thinking that spam is part of the American 4th of July 🇺🇸 tradition. I’ll explain the joke XD When Mili landed their first anime OST, (about 6 years into me following them as a band), they released their first ever music video. The song is called “Rightfully” and is featured in Goblin Slayer. This is the part where I tell you to go watch the official music video for it. Buuuut if you’re lazy, I’ll summarize. There’s a shut-in eating multiple cans of spam right out of the tin. He starts spasming into sick dance moves. Then he turns into a goblin alien thing? I don’t know. The video makes no sense. Personally I find it hilarious. Anyways, I had Mili sign a can of spam and I sincerely hope that they got the reference because nobody else in the waiting line did LOL. Based on Mili’s facial expressions, either they understood or thought I was a lunatic. That’s fine. (As you can see in the pic, they wrote their sign on a SmashBurger bag so at least if they didn’t get the reference, we still have the same stupid sense of humor) So there you have it! My “AX” trip was very short since I only stayed for 2 days but it was a blast! I probably wouldn’t go again cause of the price tag but if they brought Mili again I’d be there in a heartbeat! :)
