I often speak to you about araucaria trees, the ancient specie that lives over the highlands of Brazil's Atlantic Coast. But there is another tree from Paraná river area which is more than only important, it has its own myth of origin. I'm talking about Ilex Paraguariensis, also known as yerba mate. According to the legend, "Jaci" - the moon divinity - have turned into a woman's form and went down to the forest to a walk. In some moment, she is attacked by the Jaguaretê - known as jaguar or onça. Luckily, some Guarani hunters were in the jungle too and could help her. She then tells them to come back to the same place, to collect their reward. When they got back, they found this tree, from which leaves is made a hot infusion - mate tea - or cold infusion - tererê - and it makes you active and motivated.
On the other hand, scientists give a cock's name to the xaxim tree 😂
